Horrible Bosses

I'm sorry, we're you expecting me to draw 3 guys instead of a sexy dentist Jennifer Aniston? Oh you poor schmuck. 

From the previews and all the glowing reviews, the movie looks hilarious. But does it live up to its expectations?
Nick(Jason Bateman), Kurt(Jason Sudeikis) and Dale(Charlie Day) all have fairly decent jobs that they want to keep, but are kept from enjoying them from their horrible bosses(Oh he said the title!).  With the job market being what it is, they all agree the sensible thing is to kill their bosses. Ridiculous antics ensue.

This really isn't as funny as the previews are making it look, as funny as everyone saying it is. It has its funny moments here and there, but overall it's pretty meh. It's no Wedding Crashers or Anchorman. I honestly think the funniest parts are Jamie Foxx and a cat.  Not to say that it's a bad movie, it's just not uproariously funny.  If you really wanted to, you can see all the best jokes in the red band trailer here.

I liked the characters, and it may be worth it for you just for that. Bateman, Sudeikis and Day do a great job of playing off each other and manage to have some fun enjoyable dialogue.  It's nice to see each of them has their own strengths and weakensses and aren't ll the same character. Nick is probably the smartest of the three, but also the weakest.  Kurt has a good heart and is very friendly, but he's oblivious to his social awkwardness and a little too friendly with the ladies.  Dale is a total dimwit but has a lot of spunk and energy.

The best ones are the bosses and side characters. Jamie Foxx is hilarious as their murder consultant, Colin Ferrel is great as a coked-up balding douche bag, and Jennifer Aniston plays a sexy dentist. I know I'm the first to be against going to a movie primarily for a hot woman or man, but goddamnit, Jennifer Aniston plays a sexy dentist. You're welcome everyone.  There are a slew of bit parts played by well-known actors and comedians who are also fun, my favorite being Mr. Fantastic playing a "wetworks" guy they find on craigslist.

There are some parts that are predictable(which ruins the joke if you already know the punchline), but a lot of it was a surprise to find out how it would all turn out in the end.  There's some clunky voice over from the three main characters in the beginning and end. It only shows up there and adds a little depth to the characters but overall feels cliche and awkward.

Overall: Meh. Not as funny as other stuff.  Only a couple of laughs here and there.

Why you should see it: Only a few funny moments, so if you have to see it, see it for the enjoyable characters.

One Scene metaphor: There's a part in which P. J. Byrne plays an old college buddy who explains how there's no work out there right now and he'll do literally anything for cash.  There are so many well known actors/comedians here spouting off one liners it feels like they all feel the same way.

Recommended: See it in the cheap seats or wait for the DVD.
