Good-bye DC Nation and why we freak out

Those of you keeping track in geek culture have heard that Cartoon Network has chosen not to renew Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, and some of you may be wondering why so many of us fervent nerds are cussin' out CN and writhing in agony and screaming towards the heavens and all that. Afterall, they're just some dumb cartoons.
If you weren't pulling for these two to make out, check to see if you still have a soul.

Hansel(Jeremy Renner) and Gretel(Gemma Arterton) were abandoned by their parents in the forest as children and almost eaten by a witch, so obviously they have to devote their lives to killing every witch they find! But when a grand witch(Famke Janssen) comes along and starts kidnapping ALL OF THE CHILDREN, Hanel and Gretel must stop her! Then they discover some strange things about their past.

Quick Review: Gangster Squad

Get out your Tommy Guns, we're quickly reviewing Gangster Squad!  Mickey Cohen(Sean Penn) comes to take over LA, but the police chief(Nick Nolte) is having none of it. He gets Sgt. O'Mara(Josh Brolin) to form a team to tear down the gangsters' business!
I really enjoyed Gangster Squad, but there's not much to talk about. There's some brutal action here and there, but mostly it's just guys shooting at other guys. And the plot is pretty by the numbers, but it's still fun, funny and overall enjoyable. Maybe if it wasn't so transparently by-the-numbers and if they had kept up with the brutal stylized action they set up in the beginning(it's no worse than a good episode of Boardwalk Empire) it would have been a fantastic movie instead of just a great one. But as it stands, it's a mix of some pretty good performances, great period piece work, enjoyable action, funny sharp dialogue, a nice classy soundtrack, and an overall pretty fun movie. $$$$ Go see it! Especially if you like noir and gangster flicks.

Killer Joe

Get out your Kentucky Fried Chicken, we're reviewing Killer Joe! No it...it makes sense in the movie. Kind of.

When Chris(Emile Hirsch) needs to pay a debt to a gangster fast, he hatches a scheme with his father, Ansel(Thomas Haden Church) and sister Dottie(Juno Temple) to kill their dead-beat mother for the insurance money. They hire a professional killer, Joe(Matthew McConaughey), to do the job.

Jack Reacher

Get out your big guns and fast cars, we're reviewing Jack Reacher!
I don't know what happened, I just could not get Tom Cruise's face right.
The police arrest a man who they think killed five people in a homicidal spree, and they've got an airtight case. The only thing the suspect writes down is the name, "Jack Reacher". Jack(Tom Cruise) rides into town and investigates the murders, finding evidence to suggest not everything is what it seems...

First off I just want to honorably mention the honorable mentions: Chronicle was a fantastic new superhero film, Haywire was a tight little action film, Argo is a super tense yet funny thriller, Brave is still a great Pixar movie, The Secret World of Arrietty is a wonderful Ghibli film with an amazing sense of scale, and Casa De Mi Padre is just a damn funny oddball film. Check all those puppies out.  On to the winners!
