commercial rage: Dr. Pepper just for men

I was wondering if I wanted to write an angry post about a commercial campaign that's 4 months old, but then I saw Conan O' Brian do a sponsored skit (not a skit mocking the commercial mind you, but a skit paid for by Dr. Pepper), and I said, "OH HELL YES I WANT TO WRITE AN ANGRY BLOG POST!"

So here we go.
With this one, I just did pen with no pencil baseline.
"Catchphrase!"

Paranormal Activities 2 and 3

Get out your handheld cameras and Ouija boards, it's a double-demon review with Activities de la Paranormals 2 and 3!  Get ready because this is a long one!
I was so SO tempted to just draw nothing.
I saw the first one a while back. I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty scary, even if the main guy was a total dick who took me out of the experience with his dickishness. [AUDIBLE SIGH] But I just recently shotgunned both of the paranormal sequels with friends, for some reason. I thought one of them was good. Can you guess which one?!

Haywire

Get out your [POW! KICK! PUNCH-IN-THE-FACE!]...Ow! This movie just kicked my butt! Did you see that?! Get back here, Haywire!
EDIT: I finally finished the illustrated version! If you look closely, you can see the different techniques I went through.
After watching the trailer, I was not expecting anything from Haywire. How wrong I was! I'm not afraid to say this is pretty much the movie I wanted Drive to be.

Sketched TV: Alcatraz

In this installment of Sketched TV, I'll be reviewing the new thriller on Fox, Alcatraz!
I think this poster came out pretty well in illustrator.
Alcatraz comes to us from J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot, the creators of Lost and Fringe (the latter being back and another show you NEED to be watching), which is not surprising since the show feels like a combination of Lost, Fringe, and Prison Break. In this case, that's not a bad thing.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Get out your spy guns and spy glasses, we're reviewing Tinker Tailor Soldier Candlestick Maker! No wait, it's Tinker Tailor Soldier Platypus! No, Tinker Tailor Timelord! Oh, let's just get on with it.
I'm trying to do more stuff in Illustrator, but I never like the colors.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has some great acting and can be really suspenseful, but it's also long and hard to follow.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Get out your computers and rape whistles, we're reviewing the English adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! Man, how good is that trailer? Like, super good?
A shiny new penny to the person who tells me why I don't ink more often?
If you've read the books or seen the Swedish version, you know what you're in for. If not, get ready for an intense, rape-filled mystery.

The Illusionist

Get out your cards and rabbits, we're reviewing The Illusionist!
This is not what I expected from the same studio that created The Triplets of Belleville. Yes, the animation is astounding, but the story is a bit...depressing.
Minor spoilers ahead.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Get out your pipes and steampunks we're revewing Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Thrones! SHADOWS! It's a game of shadows we are reviewing.
Hey, we were all thinking it. This just needed to be done.
The second installment of the Roberty Downy Jr. Steampunk kung-fu Sherlock Holmes is about as much fun as the first one. If you enjoyed that you should fairly enjoy this.

Sketched TV: House of Lies or 'Thank You for the Airification'

Since I'm kind of a big TV junkie, I thought I'd start reviewing TV shows too. First up, House of Lies!
I was first interested in this when I saw it was Don Cheadle playing the likable jerk in a despicable position, reminiscent of Thank You for SmokingUp in the Air, and even Californication. Unfortunately, it's pretty much an amalgamation of all of those with little else new added on.  Spoilers ahead!

Young Adult

Get out your booze and high school sweatshirts, we're reviewing Young Adult!
I think I got her face pretty well.
When I saw previews for this and learned Patton Oswalt was co-starring, I thought this would be a comedy similar to Bad Teacher. I was wrong. It is a very painful and awkward movie.

10 New Year's Resolutions I wish movies would make

It's the New Year! The big twenty-dozen! Or Double-Doze for the cool kids.  Now that we're all symbolically reborn like phoenix wrights, we make our New Year's Resolutions to become better people  and work a little harder and all that crap.  Well here are ten resolutions I wish movies would make this year!
