Review: Savages

Get out your guns and weed, we're reviewing Savages!

I've been trying more ink and dry brush lately!

Ben(Aaron Johnson) and Chon(Taylor Kitsch) are the two of the best pot growers in the world. Elena(Salma Hayek), who runs the mexican drug cartel, wants in on their business. When Ben and Chon refuse, she kidnaps their mutual girlfriend, O(Blake Lively). What are Ben and Chon willing to do to get her back?  Spoilers follow.

The Raven

Get out your booze and blood, we're reviewing The Raven!

Maybe I should have made his forehead bigger.

I feel with The Raven they were trying to turn Edgar Allen Poe into a Sherlock Holmes type character and create a story similar to From Hell, but it doesn't quite work.  It feels like The Raven is trying to be a lot of things, a classic mystery, a torture-porn gore fest, a summer action movie, and a respectful look at Poe's life, without doing any one of them very well. Minor spoilers follow.

Super

Get out your tights and wrenches! We're reviewing Super!

That's right Crime, you heard him.

There's no other way of putting this. Super is a really effed up movie. It's Kick-Ass on crazy pills. Think about that for a second. This takes the "realistic and gritty" superhero story to it's extreme. It is easily the most realistic superhero film you will ever see.

Immortals

Get out your funny hats and short skirts, we're reviewing Immortals!

"You guys, do I look ridiculous in this hat? No? Ok, just making sure."

It's hard not to compare this to 300 and Clash of the Titans. Why should you see this one when you've already seen both of those? Well, it has Titans and they clash, so there's that. And there are no undertones of homosexuality or overtones of all women being whores, so there's that. But is this new stylized take fun or just another letdown?
